Import customers from a CSV
Preview and map a customer-only file without creating work or contacting anyone.
What this import does
Open Customers and choose Import customers. This workflow creates new customer records or matches existing customers. When a new row contains a complete street, city, state, and postal code, it can also create that customer's first service location.
It does not create requests, jobs, estimates, or invoices. It does not email or text customers, send documents, process payments, or record SMS consent.
Prepare the file
- Use a CSV no larger than 2 MB with at most 1,000 customer rows.
- Include Customer or company and at least one of Email or Phone.
- Use the downloadable template when possible.
- Put only customer and service-location information in the file. Remove unsupported or unnecessary private data.
Preview before importing
- Select the CSV.
- Map each source column to a Clasp field or choose Do not import.
- Confirm that no destination field is mapped more than once.
- Review the valid-row preview and every invalid or repeated-row warning.
- Import only the displayed valid customer count.
Clasp shows the first ten valid rows in the preview and skips invalid rows. A service location is created only when all required address parts are present.
Results and safe retries
The result separates imported customers, newly created customers, matched existing customers, invalid rows, and failed rows. Matching an existing record does not create a second customer.
If the browser loses the final response, check Customers before retrying. Reload Clasp, reselect the same CSV, review the preview, and import once only if the records are absent. Clasp does not automatically retry an uncertain browser submission.
For large or ambiguous files, split the file into smaller batches and verify each result. Do not use the assistant or external MCP connection for CSV imports; this workflow is available in the Customers screen.
